Country Of Origin: Germany (it's not danish, its german!) also known as Deutsche Dogge in German, or Dogue Allemand in French.
Breed Group: Working
Appearnce: Sleek, muscular, with a soft expression and fawn, black, blue, brindle, black & white (mantle) & harlequinn coat.
Height: Males: 30-35 in (76-90 cm) Females:
28-33 in (71-84 cm)
Weight: 110-180 lb (50-82 kg)
Popularity (USA): 19th (as of 2023)
Record Holder: Giant George, a blue male from the USA, born 2005, died 2013, who weighed 245 lb (111 kg), and was 43 in (109.2 cm) tall.
Tempermant: friendly, gentle, low-energy, bonding, gets along with other animals.
Lifespan: 8-10 years
Health issues:
BLOAT:
Bloat is often fatal and is caused by the stomach twisting and cutting of the blood stream. Dogs often get bloat a second time, and great danes are particulary prone to bloat.
Cardiomyopathy:
Great danes have big hearts (literally,) and cardiomyopathy is a diease that causes the heart to enlargen.
Joint & Bone Disease:
With their large frames, great danes often experince hip dysplasia and osteoarthritis. It can be a slow detoriation. Use joint supplements to help your dog and always health test & talk to your dog's vet.
Thyroid Problems:

A puppy dane needs special nutrition to keep them from growing too much, as excessive growth can lead to musculoskeletal diseases, such as dysplasia, osteochondrosis, and hypertrophic osteodystrophy.
